I was talking to my husband last week and he asks me out of the blue, “Have you read that book 50 Shades of Grey?”
My response, “50 Shades of what?” I’d never heard of it.
Well, turns out he’d heard about it from some of the women at his office, who’d heard about it from some women they knew, who’d no doubt heard about it from someone else.
After Googling it about twenty seconds later, I discovered that this book is climbing up the best seller charts everywhere and has already been optioned for a movie. This is the author’s very first book, folks. So obviously, I sat up and took notice.
What makes it different, you ask? Well, it’s erotica, for one. It’s kind of like a “cross over” hit. People who’ve never read erotic romance before are picking it up and whispering to their friends about it. The word of mouth phenomenon with this book is really pretty amazing.
The other thing that makes it different (in my opinion) is the cover. For an erotic romance, the cover is intriguing. No half naked man on the front (okay, I miss that a little), no woman stroking her unmentionables, just a simple black and white photo of a tie. I like that. I like it a lot. Made me curious. Made me want to pick it up and read it.
So…I downloaded it and am on chapter one. I’ll let you know what I think.
My question to you is, have you heard of this book before? Have you read it? I’d love to hear your input-

You haven’t heard about this book? Where you been at, girl?
But, no, I haven’t read it.
I know! I’ve been living under a rock
I read this book and can’t wait to read the other two. I couldn’t put that book down and I had a great time reading it. Never before have I read a book of this caliber. If you haven’t read it you have to pick it up and read it. It will not disappoint. If it’s going to be a movie I will be the first in line to pay to see it.
I’ve heard a lot about it. Some people love it, and others, not so much. Haven’t read it yet, and not sure if I want to. I’ll be interested in your opinion, Kaylie.
I read the free sample download on Amazon and wasn’t interested enough to order the book. It did not hook me in the first two chapters. Maybe I’m just jaded by reading erotica that gets my motor running earlier in the story?
I have it, but haven’t started it yet. I am interested to hear your thoughts too Kaylie. And Pepper, I know what you mean.
I’m a slow reader like I’m a slow writer. Ugh. May be Christmas by the time I’m finished.
I just got downloaded the sample from amazon and was not keen on reading more. I’m not a big erotica reader but thought this might be intriguing. It was too boring in the first two chapters do I wasn’t up for purchasing it. So unless someone can assure me it really gets good then I won’t be buying it. I’m busy writing my own stuff so takes a lot for me to stop doing that.
